Interview with Adam W. Warner – Founder of WP Pro Business

I had the pleasure of speaking at WordCamp Miami 2011 recently. The session I presented was titled Introduction to WordPress and was delivered to a capacity crowd.

What Is a WordCamp?

As described on WordCamp.org:

WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 25 million sites on the web. WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them, but in general, WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively.

What I Covered in My Presentation

The overall goal of my presentation was to explain the following points to the participants:

  • Difference between .com and .org
  • Installation methods: Manual vs Automatic from host (and why manual is preferred)
  • Dashboard tour
  • Settings menu (and why it’s important to configure these options from the start)
  • Difference between Pages, Posts
  • Difference between Categories, Post Tags
  • Adding content (Pages and Posts how to)
  • Explanation of Widgets and what they can do
  • Explanation of Themes
  • Explanation of Plugins
  • Next steps…

I was approached by Mason James of WPMU.org who asked for an interview to hear my thoughts on WordPress, what I presented, and my hopes for the future of the software. Of course I accepted and was very humbled and pleased to be given the opportunity to share my thoughts with their community.

If you’re not familiar with WPMU.org, it’s a great resource for WordPress related news and information created by the great folks at Incsub.

My Thoughts on WordCamp Miami

WordCamp Miami was well organized and attendance was to capacity for the University of Miami School of Communications location where it was held. As always, the attendees and speakers seemed passionate and motivated to succeed with their individual goals using WordPress.

There is a video version of my entire presentation which we’ll be making available for you to watch on WP Pro Business soon.
